Mother's Day
I gave Mom a couple of books for Mother’s Day: 7oo Sundays by Billy Crystal and Knitting Rules! by Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. I haven’t read Crystal’s book, but it seemed like the right thing for Mom. It’s Crystal talking about his family and growing up. The knitting book is one that I have read. Pearl-McPhee is known as the Yarn Harlot and has a blog (http://www.yarnharlot.ca/blog/). I also enjoyed her book called Yarn Harlot: The Secret Life of a Knitter, which is essays about knitting. Knitting Rules! has some of her general thoughts about knitting but is more of a how-to book. For my own humble beginnings in the craft, I rely on a book that was given to us by our good friend Linn, Kids Knitting: Projects for Kids of All Ages by Falick, Hartlove, and Nicholas. It is so clearly written and illustrated that with it, a pair of size 8 knitting needles, and any skein of yarn, you too could be knitting in 15 minutes if you aren’t already one of the fifty million knitters in North America.

Did anyone give a mom a book today? Did any moms receive books?
My mom and I talked about books. She told me that she cannot focus on audio books, but has tried. We talked about Bill Bryson's "History of Everything", which she remembers reading. So far, "A Walk in the Woods" is very enjoyable - witty.
Oooh, good choice! I really enjoy Stephanie's wit, and her patterns are darn handy too. Happy Mother's Day! :-)
