Finished last night. One word description: INTENSE.

Have fun getting there!

I finished it yesterday. I'd have to say, I'm satisfied. I may just reread it again already. Or I may read that "The World Without Us" book about what would change if people weren't crapping up the earth. Spoiler: cockroaches would perish. (Or so I hear.) Also, finished Sin in the Second City, and recommend. I think that's all...

But, Christine...when CAN we start discussing HP7? :)

Will begin Chapter 13 tonight. Very intriguing and so far all those loose ends are still out there. Can't wait to finish it but I'm reading it to the kids (including husband) in the evening so we have limited time. They would not forgive me if I read ahead! Martha, pleeeese be patient and give us a little more time ;-}

I am on page 540, or somewhere in there. Whoa. Totally intense.

I can be patient :) I warn you though, when you all do finish it, I am going to erupt in squeaks and chitters and you will hear me from here, and will be able to tell, even through my typing :)

So Martha, does that mean I won't need my extendable ears? Darn!

Looking forward to the squeaks and chitters. But for now, "Muffliato!"

I'm in the middle of chapter 13. Somehow baby fingers on the page keep me from reading as quickly as I want. Must read while she naps.

I am reading Bleak House, by Charles Dickens, and haven't so much as purchased a copy of HP7. I did read the last sentence at work. But I'm pretty sure I've sworn off HP for at least 6 months, after all the hype. DRD

I Read nonstop until I finished it. I have a very understanding spouse. I agree with Kathymarie and Sophia: intensarama.

*THIS COMMENT DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS*

I'm not reading Harry Potter! *gasp* Although I talked to my friend Stacy today, who is obsessed with HP, and she shared with me every last detail about the book that she cared to share. I mostly just went, "oh wow. Uh-huh."

I am reading Chuck Palahniuk's "Stranger than Fiction," a collection of short essays/vignettes. Very interesting so far. The latest I finished was his account of himself and a friend walking through city streets dressed as large animals (a.k.a. "plushies," I guess). They were followed by suspicious police on walkie-talkies, older women who wanted to know "what they were promoting," and teenage boys who kicked and punched them every chance they got. The individual essays are varied, but they are all, more or less, about us.

have just switched dog sitting houses and didn't finish either one from last place - wasn't too upset to leave them. they were: A Good Year (Peter Mayle) and Paris to the Moon (Adam Gopnik). i have found 2 more here i'll check out tonight: The Color of Water (James McBride) and In the Time of the Butterflies (Julia Alvarez). hoping at least to be kept occupied.

Thank you all for your comments!

If you can hold on to your broomsticks, we'll open up the Hogwarts dungeons and have an all-out HP discussion on Wed Aug 1.

Heather, you dumped Paris to the Moon? I've been circling in on that book for a while and would have it now if it weren't for all the things I have on deck. Did you not care for it?

Just got home from Barnes and Noble to find Olivia awake(!). She would like to tell you what she's reading.

I am reading HP7. I keep thinking it will get lighter, but it just keeps getting darker. I try not to read it just before bed. I am on page 235 :)

Anonymous said...

Impressive, Oliv. Is writing about it past bedtime better than reading it near bedtime? DRD

Anonymous said...

Yes, because I get to stay up late!

ch - i didn't care much for Paris to the Moon. some interesting things but overall found myself reading and thinking about other things so i didn't even know what i'd read. or if i could focus, was mostly bored w/ it. looked up the reviews on Amazon and they're quite mixed. seemed about 2 loved it to 5 or 6 that hated it. i'll be interested to see what you think. apparently it's a collection of essays from the NY writer who was able to write from Paris for 5ish years. pretty sure i wouldn't try it again.
