Tell Me Tuesday

Hello Everyone! What are you reading this week?
(Rowling fans, hold on to your broomsticks for one more day. Tomorrow you'll be able to talk about the ins and outs of the last Potter book here. Please no spoilers today. Thank you!)

Still working on Bleak House. It's written in two parts, one of them third person omniscient and the other first person. The third person parts go between many different characters, while the first person is just the story from the perspective of Esther Summerson, the female lead. I find that I dislike too many of the characters to enjoy the third person omniscient parts, but I love Esther, so I get through the book looking for when she comes up next. DRD

D--*cough* Gillian Anderson! Gillian Anderson!

Anyway, I just read a humorous little book called "Will the Vampire People Please Leave the Lobby?" which mostly was about one woman's "adventures in fandom" (re: Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and the people she interacted with due to it. Hmm, that sounded grammatically awkward. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but a hardcore Buffy fan, though.

I'm now currently reading Herland, a feminist utopian novel by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, she of The Yellow Wallpaper fame.

Um . . . Gillian Anderson? Who? DRD

*sigh* Don't make me have the X-Files conversation with you again...

Oh. I vaguely remember tuning out something about the X-Files earlier today. DRD

The first Harry Potter (re-reading it along with my wife, who's never read them) and yes Christine, Down the Nile. Enjoying it a lot, so far.

When did it come in? I forgot to check. You got it first! Dog gone! Did you shortlist two?

Martha, please don't leave us non-BN people out of X-files stuff! I'm a total Xophile. If you would be so kind, I'd also love to hear about Herland. We had an actress come to our college (when I was a wee lassie) and do a one-woman play based on The Yellow Wallpaper--it was awesome.
I'm finishing The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman and enjoying it immensely.

Rant by Chuck Palahniuk.

Ah, Philip Pullman . . . Ah, The Golden Compass . . . Ah, His Dark Materials. Those are some of my favorite books--keep going with the series. I'm still debating whether to see the movie when it comes out, or if there's just no need to raise my blood pressure that hight. DRD

Danika, there is no way you are going to be happy with the movie of the book. You know it, and I know it. Unless they invite you to help make the movie. But they don't know you. And the movie's already made. Don't. Do. It.

I don't think I'd be happy even if I helped make the movie. I don't think I could even get it perfect enough to satisfy my nasty little perfectionist soul. I should take your advice. I should have your advice tattooed on my forehead and posted on everything at eye level in my house. But it's Philip Pullman . . . DRD

Hey Cook, did you hear they're making another X-Files movie? :O
