My dad loves Patrick O'Brien, and went to San Francisco to hear him lecture on his Aubrey books. I can't remember if he met him, though. he was thrilled.

Hello,

This rambles...

I did have the opportunity to meet Author, Gregory McDonald (Fletch novels) and Author, Ken Brown ( Notes from the Nervous Breakdown Lane) on the same trip once. It was exactly what I was into at the time and they were totally cool. I say "cool" because I was in High School at the time and huge fans of both and very nervous to meet them. I was introduced by a friend's aunt's, husband. Later Ken Brown did send me some of his early work that was out of print. I still have and cherish today.
Met the photographer Jorie Gracen. She has taken several pictures of Paul McCartney from Wings to present and authored a book titled, "I saw him standing there". Yet this is another time I was introduced through a friend. Recently a good friend of mine Ken Gage authored a book "Face of the Screaming Werewolf". I haven't picked it up yet but I will be placing my order today. Until the question of meeting authors came up, I would of said "No, I haven't met any" but now I am thinking about it, I have met quite a few. Another time I did get to correspond with Frank Abagnale Jr. on several occasions. He wrote the book "Catch Me If You Can" and several other identy theft books. Fun author to read and I have them all.....Local author Richard Lindberg does a lot of books on the Chicago crime scene. One of my favorites is "Scene of the Crime" and the sequel "Return to the Scene of the Crime". Met him at a library tour of his. Facinating stories, fun to read and I bought all of his books. Great guy and so nice. So far every author I have met has been so down to earth and very appreciative of their fans. I do usually obtain a signature in their book but not in a bugging sort of way. When I go back to look at their book, I instanly remember meeting them when I look at their signature. Hey when they do sign one I do buy all their other books. Sorry for the ramble....

Only ones I ever met were John K. Bouseman and James G. Sternburg. And what did they write you may ask? Well, the "Field Guide to Butterflies of Illinois" of course! I purchased an autographed copy from them while discussing their butterfly collection. I guess that places me in the realm of nerddom.

As painful as it is to say, I have not met any of my favorite authors. Wish I had. Although I don't think I'd do anything but grovel at their feet, and that would just result in them slowly edging away and me being escorted from the building (again).

I once went to a poetry reading in Chicago to hear Maxine Kumin and Lucille Clifton. I stood in line to meet both of them and shake their hands. I don't collect autographs but did want to tell them what their poems have meant to me. Ms. Kumin didn't read one of my favorite poems of hers, "Morning Swim," during the reading. When I met her, I asked her if she could do it from memory. She did the whole thing right there for my ears only. It was something I will always remember.

I met Fr. Andrew Greeley by chance at a book signing in Chicago. I was wandering in Water Tower Place waiting for Mike and there he was at a book signing so I bought the newest release and had him sign. It was fun. I had and still do read some of his novels.

When I was thirteen, I was completely enamored of Tamora Pierce (still like her books, but not in the same way), and I got to meet her at a book signing at a Barnes and Noble in Geneva. She spoke for a while, read a passage from her upcoming novel, then a work in progress (very interesting to read the version that was originally published after hearing the excerpt!), and signed books. I still have my (rather battered by now) autographed copies.
