Happy birthday, Don!
In celebration of your existence, I am reading various and sundry pieces about the Black Death. Nothing more uplifting than a good old-fashioned plague.

A whole class on the plague? What are some of your book titles?

Happy birthday Don! Im actually in between books, but i just finished up Nymphos of Rocky Flats, which was actually a pretty decent vampire story. (not nearly as explicit as the title makes it out to be). This book fit the bill for something entertaining but not very involved and very easy to breeze through.

Book titles? Well, there's On the Brink of the Apocalypse, and Medicine Before Science, and Plagues, Poisons, and Potions, and The Black Death and something or other, which I can't remember at the moment.

Happy Birthday, Don!

And now that school's back in session, I'm back to not reading anything.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DON!!!!!!

In the spirit of not reading much-slash-reading vampire stuff, just finished The Road to Hell and am currently reading Blood Is the New Black. Ahh, fluffy vampire chick lit.

Well, in my defense, the first one was succubus "romance."

:P

Are you ready to come back yet?

I -heart- all All ALL of you.

Spent my b-day talking to insurance companies and getting ready for my fixiture removal surgery tomorrow.
Hope to be back among the walking soon.

Christine- I love your blog. Mind if I add some comments?

I just finished two books this week. The first is Thousand Spendid Suns, by the Kite Runner guy. I was hesitant to read it because I liked Kite Runner so much & was afraid of being diasppointed, but it was REALLY GOOD! Lots of insight into the culture of Afgahanistan from a woman's point of view, plus good character development.

The second book was the Little Book of Pandemics. It's a collection of cool diseases, plus lots of facts like the likelyhood of use in bioterrorism, communicability, symptoms, and so on. It was like mixing epidemiology and baseball cards!

Happy Birthday Don, if you're reading. (And even if you're not.)

Don, good luck tomorrow. And remember, there's nothing that keeps a person's spirits up like shouting at a few bureaucrats if you've got any issues with insurance.
And Martha, how is that a defense?

Wish I could say I was reading something new and exciting, but unfortunately I seem to have hit a slow stretch. So I'm still on The Hundred Secret Senses, although I'm about an inch away from a reread of something else.

Danika, I found a book on graphic novels in the library today and my curiosity's piqued. Aside from the Sandman books by Neil Gaiman, I'm a total newbie to this genre. Any recommendations?

Well, there's Alan Moore's stuff. He wrote V for Vendetta (don't be misled by the awful movie they made out of it) and Watchmen, as well as League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Then there's a series called Fables, which is about what happens when the fables' lands are taken over by the Adversary, and they have to flee to New York (it's less silly than it sounds). And if you're interested, Maus I and II are a biography of the author's father during his time in the Nazi death camps. All excellent graphic novels. Once you've got those read, you may be able to go on yourself (or decide you hate the genre).

Erin, might I recommend this excellent graphic novel called Mouse Guard? I think it's fantastic, and I don't even like graphic novels.

Danika--
It's a defense in that a succubus is not a vampire, it's a female demon who steals men's souls via sexual relations.

Don--
By "fixiture," do you mean your cool-ass leg piercing? Can we throw it a going away party? Now you won't be like Hellraiser anymore :(

Well...not in the physical appearance sense, anyway...

Mary, you are a dork. *snort* Pandemics indeed... :D

Still not seeing how that's a defense . . .

Danika and Martha, thanks very much for the recs! Fables especially sounds interesting; I'll have to look for those.

Danika, please don't make me not bring Excalibur 5 for a visit. I wouldn't want to deprive you.

DRD said...

No! No! Anything but that! How could I go on?

Don, is it your birthday *again*?!

DRD said...

Of course. Every day is Don's birthday.

So you're saying is I'm 155,593 years old?
No wonder I've got aches and pains.

DRD said...
