There were seven of us tonight at Barnes and Noble:
Don
Danika
Insomniac
Son of Insomniac
Tyler
Lisa
Christine
It was fun to have a face-to-face discussion. We even have plans to read and discuss another book, Slaughter-House Five by Kurt Vonnegut sometime next month.
Comments on our get-together, guys?

I thought there were some poetic passages in the book and liked the memories of childhood but couldn't really feel for the characters because too often, they did things or said things that didn't ring true for me. Like Fahrenheit 451, it was about ideas in the head and didn't make me feel anything in the heart.
And, regarding themes, where I saw only deaths and endings, Don saw fresh starts and begininngs. Don was optimist-boy tonight and I was downer-girl. Go figure. We might have teeshirts made.
Thank you guys for coming!
Don, optimist-boy? It's a good thing I wasn't there, my head may have exploded in disbelief.
Now Slaughterhouse-5, there's a book discussion I could get in on.
I feel like I didn't say enough about my favorite character...but I loved our discussion and can't wait for the next one! I think Slaughterhouse 5 is a good choice; I need to read some Vonnegut.
Excellent discussion and has a great time. It was nice to meet Insomniac & Son.
I even didn't hate hearing other people's take on the book, even if they were wrong when we disagreed. HA!
I had a delightful time not leading the group, and I would just like to set this here, for the record, though I know no one will believe me: Don agreed with me. He didn't even try to keep it to himself, he just said it straight out. It was an historic moment.
Thanks for a great discussion. It was especially enjoyable to meet Lisa, Don and Tyler and put faces to names.
Sorry, but D already snarfed Slaughterhouse Five from our library - hopefully they have multiple copies. I was pleasantly surprised at his enthusiasm for the next discussion.
And drd, I did notice Don agree with you if you need a witness. Do we get a prize for being in agreement with Don? - cuz, you know, we shared the same favorite character.
Oh, and Don, now that I've met you, I don't believe a word of what they've been saying about you...
Insomniac, I KNEW there was something I liked about you!
I enjoyed our discussion the other night. I especially liked the comments on our favorite characters, it really helped characterize how we all connected with the book.
Okay. I finally remembered to check this. On page 155 of the mass market paperback copy of Dandelion Wine, there is a line missing. Everything after "noth" in the word "nothing" is missing in our copy. In my mom's hardcover copy, the paragraph (Tom speaking to Douglas)goes:
"The last few days when Mr. Forrester told me a little here or a little there and I finally put it all together--boy, did I bawl my head off. I don't even know why. I wouldn't change one bit of it. If you changed it, what would we have to talk about? Nothing! And besides, I like to cry. After I cry hard it's like it's morning again and I'm starting the day over."
I don't think it really makes that chapter more believable, though.
Thank you for your research, Danika.
