Ok, what's up? Is this because it's a Pulitzer Price finalist? Is that a new distinction? Sorry, I'm just curious!

Yeah, are there no more words on this blog?

No, no, guys, you're reading too much into it. I just added the picture after my post and accidentally made it its own post. I liked the back/front cover shot.

Oh, and we're here shop-vaccing all this water in our basement again. Didn't we do this in February? Jim is at his post on the laundry side of the basement reading Appaloosa by Robert Parker and minding the filling buckets and pump. I am in my swivel desk chair stationed at the corner of my teaching side of the basement sucking water from the corner as soon as it begins to pool while reading AHWOSG. I am not skipping the aforementioned superfluous pages of said piece. Just hit 239 and kept on going. ENOUGH RAIN!

I'm sorry, Christine! I hope your office doesn't incur any damage. And why are you and Jim doing this? Didn't you have children for a reason?

Eek, I hope you've managed to prevent any water damage!

I was at Yancy's over the weekend and he lives in Des Plaines. Trying to get anywhere was fairly complicated, but at least all his property is safe as he's on the 5th floor of a condominium building. His car is parked a couple blocks from where he would normally park it though, and it's definitely better off that way.

The teaching side of the basement is okay, which is good because I will be reading aloud a retelling of Beowulf to about seven 10-year-olds later today (the one by Raven and Howe, if anyone's curious).

You can hear a sample of the original text of Beowulf in Old English being read here:

I just finished the section in AHWOSG that I was going to skip. Enjoying the book a lot. Maybe since I expected less from that section this time, I wasn't disappointed.

Ah, yes, the world is so much better when we all lower our expectations, isn't it?
