from Wikipedia:
Mostly Martha (Bella Martha) is a 2001 German romantic comedy drama film directed by Sandra Nettelbeck. It is about a skilled chef in Hamburg, Germany. When her sister dies, she is left taking care of her niece, who gives her problems. She then has to face choices about the best solution to solve the problems set forth by her niece.
I watched this the other night. Some of you might be familiar with the American remake, No Reservations, from 2007 with Catherine Zeta-Jones and Aaron Eckhart, which isn't bad. The German one is better, though, sweeter, and less shiny.
Have you seen any good movies lately?

"No Reservations".
$9.99 at your local Barnes & Noble.
Seriously, does watching probably fifteen and a half hours of "Phineas and Ferb" on Tune Disney count?
Cuz I totally did that.
Watched the film version of Interview With the Vampire for a paper I'm doing for Film & Lit. It's so melodramatic and emo and wonderful. And the costumes make me salivate. But I did notice something I hadn't before. Even though there are very few women characters, there are images of women all over the place in the background. Portraits on walls, statues, busts on pedestals, etc. It's really interesting.
"V for Vendetta". Gotta love a movie based on British history. I thought it was a blend of the Matrix, Phantom of the Opera and Electra.
Well, Danika?
..the new Bond did NOT satisfy current holiday movie needs, and I am planning to see Bolt. Yeah, I know, Miley Cyrus and CGI. What I would really like to see is "Let the Right One In"..
I recently watched Hellboy 2, which i loved. Thats about it for new movies lately.
Well, Don, V for Vendetta is a delightful graphic novel that got raped when they made it into a movie. I thought I'd made my stance on this issue pretty obvious.
Ah Danika! I understand your puritanism. I'm usually like that too, when it comes to books v. movies. However, since I dislike graphic novels, the movie is as close to the original story as I'll get. I liked it. Maybe it was the mask that did it ;)
If only you'd watched it back on November 5th, Insomniac. Or, maybe you did!
I think I would like that movie and intend to see it. I like Martin Savage a lot--I think he plays the detective (?) in it. He plays George Grossmith in Topsy-Turvy.
Don't think I'll ever read a graphic novel. Ever. I flip through them at work, and they're like Greek to me.
Christine, have you ever looked at Maus?
Actually I did watch it on Nov 5th! Brought back memories of fireworks, fire-baked potatoes and burning the guy on the bonfire. Apparently it is considered very un-PC to do so now. Not that I'm a PC kind of person ;-0
Yancy and I were gonna see Synecdoche, New York (the new Charlie Kaufman film) last night, but at one of the only places in the area it was playing (Evanston), a bunch of Northwestern students (and others I'm sure) were picketing the theater because the CEO of Century Theaters apparently gave a bunch of money to support the passing of Prop. 8. Plus, the theater was unfortunately full by the time we got there (so I guess the picketers weren't entirely effective). But the end result was that we got our money back and did not see the movie. I was kind of relieved to not be giving that place any money, to be honest, but I still want to see the movie.
