I often have a few books with bookmarks in them at once. I enjoy classics more than contemporary works of fiction, often read historical fiction, and love to get glimpses into other people's lives by reading memoirs and biographies.
DRD-- these were your reading resolutions for 2008: That Hideous Strength, by C.S. Lewis; Paradise Lost, by Milton; The Salmon of Doubt, by Douglas Adams; The Mother Tongue, by Bill Bryson; and Dracula, by Bram Stoker. Did you knock any of them out?
I have a few right off the bat - I am going to read the rest of the Mma. Ramotswe mystery books, "An Uncommon Reader", "An Interview with the Vampire" and "World Without End". I may also finally get around to reading "The Red Tent". Maybe I'll get a few more vampire book reads from Cooksin...What are you going to read, Christine? DRD, did you read Dracula? The NY Times had a list of the top books of the year and I had not heard of any of them...hmmmm
I will read some Virginia Woolf and more Dave Eggers. I'd like to read more poetry (should be able to do that with my new subscription to Poetry magazine!). Would like to read a Dickens--maybe David Copperfield or Tale of Two Cities.
Hm . . . well, I could have done worse with those resolutions. I finished That Hideous Strength, The Salmon of Doubt, and Dracula, all of which were excellent in their own ways. Unfortunately, Milton and Bryson remain sadly unread. I am interested by a reading resolution made by one of the reference librarians at the public library. He wants to read 52 books for his own pleasure this coming year (meaning he can't count books for work). Considering how much my own reading has to get pushed aside for school, I think that would be a good thing to attempt. However, he's counting graphic novels. I'm not sure I can, in all good conscience, include a manga that takes me a half hour to read. Anybody have any thoughts?
This is sad, but one of my reading resolutions is to actually read at least three full-length articles in each of my Mother Jones magazines, because since subscribing, I have woefully neglected it.
I would like to get in lots of actual books too, but in terms of specifics, I haven't even thought about it! All I know is that I'll probably get the bulk of my reading done during the summer (which is probably true for most of us). Maybe a collective resolution could be to resume the book club for the summer?
Oh, Wishful Drinking was good, by the way, although there were times when she was too rambling and her style of writing too "cutesy" for me.

My goal is to read at least 3/4 of the books that I own but have not read.
Which is surprisingly quite a bit.
I think I'm going to section off my (new, Christmas-gift) bookshelf with those books to inspire me :)
I plan to read and I read to plan.
