Tell Me Tuesday

Don't know if I'm going to keep up with the Carter book. Am very much enjoying reading Habibi to the 6th grade History Class. We have fewer than 100 pages left, and I hope to read about 20 to them today. What are you all reading this week?

I am reading a lovely fantasy novel called The Lies of Locke Lamora, by Scott Lynch. Structured rather confusingly, but great fun once you figure out all his jumps in time. I just read a short story by Joyce Carol Oates called "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" dedicated to Bob Dylan--I think I would have enjoyed it a great deal more if I weren't so ignorant about music. And I am reading an essay by Thomas Paine about deism. All in all, a fairly interesting mix.

*Just* finished The Kite Runner--was lovely, I really enjoyed it. Wish I had more time to read throughout the schoolyear...today I'll be lucky if I manage to read my mail and the newspaper.

Making my way through "As They See It", a surprisingly hard read about baseball umpires.
And also re-reading "Seven Glorious Days, Seven Fun-Filled Nights", one of my favorites from WAY back. It's the true story of a guy who attempts to watch everything on TV for a solid week. Now this IS in 1967 and he has a grand total of 6 (SIX!) stations to keep track of. I've reread this many times since I picked it up at a garage sale in about 1975 but this time I'm startled by the similarities to today. The nation is in an unpopular war (then Vietnam) which is getting a lot of TV coverage, everything that was popular is now being recycled into this new phenomenon called "syndication" and oh yeah, the Mets are losing. Just watching this guy try to wade through the daytime soaps is worth the price of admission.
