I often have a few books with bookmarks in them at once. I enjoy classics more than contemporary works of fiction, often read historical fiction, and love to get glimpses into other people's lives by reading memoirs and biographies.
Just started Dark Sleeper, the library discussion group's September pick, and I'm loving it. Charles Dickens meets mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and sailor ghosts!
I'm listening to "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold while I finish quilting my latest quilt.
Which makes me wonder: Does anyone else listen to audio books while doing something else and then recall that book every time they revisit that activity? This happens to me frequently. I'll also remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I listened to the story. I know that every time I look at my new quilt I'll think of poor Susie.
Don, Zoe is reading Artemis Fowl - she was wondering if it was science fiction or fantasy - what do you think? I have not read it. I am back to "Voyage of the Beagle" and looking at "Child 44". I really enjoyed "The Lightning Thief" -
Insomniac- Yes! I thought this was unique! I listen to audio books while driving, and sometimes I can remember exactly which exit I passed as a particular part of a book. It's eerie!
I'm going to start Julie & Julia. I wanted to read this, but never got around to it. Now that the movie is out (I rarely go to movies), I'm motivated.
What I'm really, REALLY waiting for is Diana Gabaldon's new book, Echo in the Bone, which is available SEPTEMBER 22nd.
Insomniac, do you know that Peter Jackson (yes, THAT Peter Jackson) is doing a film of The Lovely Bones?
Sophia, Go Darwin! I'm looking forward to the Darwin movie with Paul Bettany and his real-life wife, Jennifer Connelly. The movie is called Creation. Wish your dad were here to see it with us.
Mary Sue, skip Julie & Julia the book and just go see the movie. Seriously.
Lookie there. All my bits were about movies based on books. Is this a book blog or a movie blog? And what must Danika, the purist, be thinking of me? Sheesh!
Wow, Jennifer Connelly is married to Charles Darwin? I did not know that.
Soph- I think it definitely falls into the fantasy camp. While there is some sci-fi tech stuff, it's there cuz it was built by a Centaur! That says Fantasy to me. (Finishing #2 tonight)

Peter Jackson making The Lovely Bones and a movie about Darwin? I can see I'll be adding to my Netflix list (since I'm too cheap to go to the movies)
