Merry Christmas!

Tell us your reading news for Christmas: Tell us your books given! Tell us your books gotten! Tell us how you sneaked away from the noisy party to read in the attic (and you'd better tell us what you were reading)! Tell us what cookbooks you used for your best recipes! Tell us what book you propped the door open with! Tell us what book your littlest cousin had to sit on at at the dinner table to be tall enough! Tell us about your Christmas books!

I just got Nick of Time by Ted Bell. It looks good. I also got Oceanology, which is part of the "ology" series. I already flipped through it. Did you know that giant clams can grow up to five feet long? Merry Christmas!

I got a new series called Geronimo Stilton. They are graphic novels. I got some more Calvin and Hobbes. I got tons more toys but my mom doesn't let me talk about that here cuz it's a book place.

The girls gave me a Book-a-Day calendar that they bought from our public library--perfect!

Well, I for one want to hear about Maria's toys.

My daughter got "Cathedral", by Macaulay, which follows the construction of a French cathedral . I received Simon Schama's "Power of Art" DVD set. Very cool.

My Dad got the National Parks book from me (recommended by my Mom because they both get into national parks free or discounted now), my mom got True Compass and the Betty Crocker Slow Cooker cookbook from me, and I got a book that my sister made for me on shutterfly.com of pictures from her wedding, :). Oh and my godson Evan got How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the book of course).

I took a detour on early Christmas afternoon (between my parents' house and my Aunt Rita's house) to go to my boyfriend's condo to feed our cat Strider while Yancy was down in Missouri visiting his folks for Christmas, and I did curl up with Catch-22 and a cat on my lap while there. :)

I gave my mom the new Andy Williams memoir and gave my dad Superfreakonomics.

Don, Maria would like to tell you some of the cool stuff she got. She'll post again later.

This was a singularly boring Christmas as regards books. I gave my brother a German/English dictionary for his class, but gave and got no other books. I did read a little Jane Eyre on my iPod while waiting for my brother to wake up Christmas morning. I also have a B&N gift card, which I intend to use for eBooks when my Nook comes this January--so excited.

Eric got a Rick Bayless cookbook on everyday Mexican cooking. We got the new Jim Butcher (Codex Alera series). Lydia got the first Percy Jackson (she's read it more than once already, but wanted to own it). Caleb got the second Amulet graphic novel. And we have a B&N gift certificate--oh yeah! I also gave some books, but half of you were there while I bought them! Thanks for all your help!

No real books as presents, because I like to sneak mine secondhand off the shelves of thrift stores, feeling like I've amassed a fortune (which I have) nearly for free. But as a result of such an escapade recently, I read The Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett on Christmas. She has wonderful writing, though of course one cannot beat Bel Canto.

Lovely idea for a blog, by the way. Just stumbled upon it here.

I've yet to read Bel Canto but have heard very good things about it. Thanks for stopping by, Tee.

Don, Maria wants you to know that she got a Phineas and Ferb tshirt and two stuffed Phineas and Ferb guys. She also got a toy Black and Decker leaf blower, some walkie talkies, a new sketchbook and colored pencils and some other stuff. But the Phineas and Ferb gifts were some of her most favorite. It was a great Christmas!

Want. Stuffed. Phineas And Ferb. NOW!

They were from her big sis. We four went to Chicago to walk around, have lunch, and see the lights before Christmas. We weren't going to be shopping. We just popped into the Michigan Avenue Disney Store to have a quick look around. Oliv spotted Phineas and Ferb (and there's a Perry, too--didn't see a Carl, though), but the line was gi-normous. How could we keep Maria from seeing my purchase? Operation Bathroom Distraction. Jim took the girls to the restroom (basement level) where Oliv proceeded to dawdle and daddle and keep Maria washing her hands well enough to perform surgery. I used my super-mom powers and willed the line to move faster. I made my purchase, put the guys in my big purse, and carried them around for the rest of the day undetected by Maria. Christmas accomplished.

I'm convinced that when she is not working at B&N or homeschooling the good children of DeKalb, Christine is a CIA operative.

Uh-oh Lisa, now she has to kill you.
