Dinner with a Literary Character (or two)

I'm rereading Salinger's Franny and Zooey for the umpteenth time, and it got me thinking. Zachary Glass (Zooey) is a bit prickly and stand-offish, but I still think I'd like to meet him. Franny would be much warmer to have a chat with, and could even become a friend, I think. What character(s) from a book would you like to meet? Under what circumstances? A beer? A ballgame? A seven course dinner?

Do they have to be fictional characters?

I'd kinda like to meet Hobbes, although I'm not sure that'd be possible even if meeting fictional characters were possible, as I'm not Calvin.

Yes, Don, let's say they have to be fictional characters. Got one?

Danika, Hobbes? Great call!

Well, since it's fiction, and since DRD mentioned Hobbes, can I spend the day with Arthur and Buster and Francine and Muffy and Brain and DW...and go to the school where they take fun field trips, and drink multiple milkshakes at the Sugar Bowl, and meet famous people like Art Garfunkle Moose and Mr. Rogers Aardvark and the famous architect guy...and have that treehouse to play in????Just for a day? Remember when they get donuts on halloween at Mrs. Tibble's house and she looks like a regular person and not an animal and has dozens of cats...????

Yes, Sophia. Yes. You may meet all of Marc Brown's characters and play in Ellwood City. Yes, yes, yes!

Who else has wishes? Let's do this!

I'd choose Scarlett O'Hara (GWTW), Nitta Sayuri (Memoirs of a Geisha), Vida Winter (13th Tale), and Dinah (Red Tent). These are all strong, complex women who faced horrible tragedies in their lives. Each went on to find that their biggest obstacle to happiness was internal (pride, anger) rather than external. Of course, it would likely degenerate into a hen party. Peck-a-little, cheep, cheep, cheep.

Maybe a better choice would be Pippi Longstocking. I loved her when I was a kid. And if she's real, I can be 11 years old.

Love your round table of women, Mary!

My 'kid pick' would be Mary Poppins, I think.

Would I want to meet Captain Ahab? Naw, but yes to Queequeg.

I like Sophia's idea, too!

Not sure of a character but I would like to live in Richard Brautigan's world.
