I just recently finished Admission by Jean Korelitz, about a Princeton admissions counselor who is somewhat emotionally stunted due to a secret from her past which she is forced to confront when she meets a brilliant student who might not be Princeton material on the surface. I liked the writing, but the plot was actually unlikely to the point of being soap opera-ish, and the ending was actually a bit sunny and abrupt compared to some of the anguish the protagonist suffers throughout most of the book. On the other hand, the book provides an interesting glimpse into the Ivy League admissions process and also has some pretty nice love scenes. I enjoyed it overall, despite some shortcomings.

I'm currently reading Steve Martin's An Object of Beauty. I'm not very far in, but so far I like the art lesson, to be honest. It's a pleasant surprise. And I've got high hopes for this book because I enjoyed Martin's other two works of fiction, Shopgirl and The Pleasure of My Company. Although, I'm not finding Lacey, the character the narrator feels compelled to write about, particularly likable. I don't dislike her, but I'm not sure why I'm supposed to like her.

Just finished the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which one of my students kindly lent me--very funny. Since I hadn't brought my Dickens to get back into, I started Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, by Cory Doctorow (I finished his Little Brother a few days ago). It's a Don recommendation, and quite good so far.

Oh Danika, I couldn't be more proud.

BTW, While I wait for "Scorecasting" to come out I'm reading "Packing for Mars"

Sadly, I got sucked back into the Pretty Little Liars series. I blame Jen :D

Also, I'm trying to finish the newest Stephen King (so I can return it!) and I'm just not finding it super-enjoyable. Has anyone read it??

(Here, I mean. Not, like, in the world.) ;)
