I often have a few books with bookmarks in them at once. I enjoy classics more than contemporary works of fiction, often read historical fiction, and love to get glimpses into other people's lives by reading memoirs and biographies.
Today I am reading, "Cemeteries of Northeast Ohio." It is completely fascinating. Some graves are listed of people from the Gypsy clan and escaped slaves. The history is wonderfully interesting and it is helping me carve out a day trip to see some of these precious pieces of history.
Picking my way carefully through China Mieville's newest, Embassytown. Sure the boy can write but does he HAVE to create an entirely new universe with every book?
I read the Oracle of Stamboul, a novel about a young prodigy who ends up advising a sultan in Istanbul. I read it right before landing in Turkey...it was just all right, and the ending was actually a little anticlimactic.
I also read Girl with the Dragon Tattoo during the trip, just to see what all the fuss is about, and I enjoyed it well enough that I think I'll continue with the series (although I could do without some of the extreme violence/sadism).
I'm currently so frustrated with my camera/battery/computer situation that I want to put my fist through a wall. Maybe I'll eventually get to share my pictures of the trip.

cgb: That does sound very interesting. How did the book come to you?
Don: Sounds just like your kind of thing. What was that book with the universe or planet or city in concentric circles?
No. You're thinking of The City And The City.
Aaaaaand... nobody posts.
