So far, since June 9 (her 10th birthday), we have read:
Ramona and Her Father
Ramona the Pest
The Marvelous Land of Oz
Beezus and Ramona
Ramona Forever
Ozma of Oz
Ramona Quimby, Age 8
Ralph S. Mouse
Right now, we are reading Old Mother West Wind, which is a sweet little book, but really is for a younger child. Still, Maria is sure to remind me if it gets to be late in the day and we haven't yet read. In order to keep our promise, she has waited up for me to get home from work around 10:30 at night (my husband's reading aloud to her wouldn't count), and once, Olivia and I had to wake her to ask if we should read after she feel asleep early on the floor while watching a movie (she said yes! she'd stay awake, thank you very much). We've almost made two months of continual reading!
Here's another blogger's take on Old Mother West Wind, which was published in 1910.

Glad your reading pact is going well--I read the blog entry you referenced (about Burgess and Old Mother West Wind). Interesting choice--I hope you and Maria enjoy! Oh and your picture seems to be broken; I can't see the image.
I see the image on my main computer but not with my iPod. Anyone else? Thanks, Lisa.
What a great sharing time! I remember reading to my kids long after they were independent readers, just for the fun of it. There's something very intimate & magical about saying the words out loud or hearing another person's voice while you're reading. Maybe that's why audio books are popular with adults? They're a little more portable than moms.
