Back on June 16, I showed you the list of books that I gave my eighth graders on their last day of school. I asked that they read a book from Column A and a book from Column B. I told them that I would do the same. Early on, I read
Holes by Sachar. And this week, I finished reading Steinbeck's
The Pearl. It is a haunting little tale about hope and greed. And it's poetic. In eighth grade I had to read Steinbeck's
The Red Pony, and I hated it. But I liked
Of Mice and Men. I think that's it for the Steinbeck I've read. Do we have any Steinbeck fans out there?
