Movie Monday

The worst part of my weekend was finding out that our kitchen sink now leaks behind the wall. But the best part was watching the first half of the new Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers 4-hour documentary by Peter Bogdanovich. It was shown last week in 16 cities in the USA and the next day was released on DVD through Best Buy only. Jim, being a lifelong TP and the HB's fan, picked it up. The film is great. It takes plenty of time to explain the early days of the band when they were Mudcrutch, and before they made it big. It has footage of early tours and plenty of interviews with producers, friends, and members of the band (even Stan Lynch, original drummer, who left in the early 90's). It's only missing the voice of of his first wife, Jane, who must have it in the divorce papers that she doesn't want to be talked about publically by him. That's the only loss for me. I like the family stories, and I'm always interested in the spouses of famous people, too. I'm looking forward to the second half, which we'll get to this weekend.

Also, attention rockumentary fans: Scorsese's film on the Stones will be out next year, and he's reportedly signed a deal to do a documentary on the Quiet Beatle, my personal favorite.

I also enjoyed the Tom Petty doc. As a fan from the beginning, I found the early footage of the band very interesting. A lot of it I had never seen.
Anyone interested in the history of music in the past 30 years should check this out.

Scorsese doing a movie on George Harrison? Wow. And a jig was danced at the Christine & Jim's.
