- I often have a few books with bookmarks in them at once. I enjoy classics more than contemporary works of fiction, often read historical fiction, and love to get glimpses into other people's lives by reading memoirs and biographies.

oooohhh...first comment on bloggie. I am reading The Hours, by Cunningham. It feels like the slow extraction of the heart and soul. I take it slow, which is the only way I have been able to read Woolf anyhow. And I have only read a few of her short stories.
Gave up on "The Namesake" - just wasn't into it...
Finished Poisonwood last weekend. Good, to be sure, but the ending was sort of...odd. Rachael reminded me so much of my sister--it was spooky.
I started The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time last night. Pretty good so far, in a weird sort of way. SUPER fast read, too.
Just started the new Stephen King book Duma Key. so far so good! There is even a Barnes and Noble membership reference in the book! haha
Read the play version of Sweeney Todd (so I could compare it to the movie); it was a little bit different, but not too much. I highly recommend both :)
Also just read Mouse Guard: Fall 1152, a graphic novel that I super-loved, which truly means something, as I am definitely NOT a graphic novel-lover. Right, Danika?
Just started Submission, a translated-from-French novel about a married lawyer who forms a BDSM relationship with lawyer she meets. Something leads me to believe that this is actually more autobiographical than fiction...
Also reading Beautiful Stranger: A Memoir of an Obsession with Perfection, about a woman who is addicted to plastic surgery. I literally just started it but, even only being ten or so pages into it, it is engaging. Plus it was on the dot clearance for $1.66 (plus 10% off with my member card).

I just finished Moving Pictures, by Terry Pratchett, which was excellent, just as I would expect from Pratchett. I'm working on the short stories at the end of Matheson's I Am Legend (a loan from Martha). I'm not liking them as well as I liked the book itself, and sometimes feel like I just want to drop them, but I keep soldiering on.

read Curious Incident . . . last year. was very different but mostly liked it.
I just got The Hundred Secret Senses by Amy Tan, but I haven't started it yet. I also saw that she has an autobiography (or memoir?) out; I'd like to read it.

Hi H (in Florida)--Bel canto is supposed to be very good. I am interested. What do you think of it?
Oh, you Duma Key readers, please keep weighing in (without spoiling any fun for those not reading it as quickly, please). How does it hold up to King's best stories? Does he still have something to say?
