Hello again!
Everything is okay. I've just been so busy that I've neglected my blog. Glad to see there's still been a buzz of activity.
Welcome, Mary Sue; we're glad to RECEIVE you here. And Don, we all wish you continued success in your leg healing. We hear the final cast is on!
I've been wrapped up in A Midsummer Night's Dream, the university play that my daughter is in this month. That's all I've been reading, too. You'd think I'd be reading a lot in the many hours of rehearsal that I've sat through, but I find the young actors and the whole process so interesting that I've watched parts of this play over and over and over again.
I also have been reading my new issue of The Sun magazine.
But hardly any Plath poetry at all.
I think I need some reading rehab.
How's your winter reading going?

Trying to find a time to come and see Olivia in AMSND. So far it looks like I cannot round up all members of the family on any one night so we'll have to decide who has to miss out!
Last week I finished "The Book Thief" which was excellent and I'm still carrying around the story and the characters in my head.
Now I'm about 1/2 way through "Life of Pi" and cannot see what everyone likes about it. Am I missing something? I have, thus far, found it irritatingly trivial and rather silly. Hoping that, now he's shipped-wrecked, it will improve -maybe he'll drown and the book will end earlier than expected?! Fingers crossed!
We'd love to see you there, Insomniac! Hope you can work it into your schedule.
Will remember you liked Book Thief so much.
I have heard both negative and positive reviews of Life of Pi. Just the other night, a bookstore co-worker said that that was a book she recommended to her book club before reading it herself and enjoyed it along with them for the firt time. I think others here have read it, too.
Comments/questions on Life of Pi, anyone?
Can't comment on The Life of Pi, since I haven't read it. I've seen glowing reviews for it but I don't trust that one bit. (Learned my lesson with The Hours.)
Picked up The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold but have not yet started it. It's next in line once I finish my current reread.
Also found a book called The Fox Woman by Kij Johnson in the library the other day. I started reading it and fangirled so hard I almost sprained something. I will be checking it out very, very soon.
I'm completely engrossed in Diane Setterfield's The Thirteenth Tale, which I feel is a fitting novel for the weather we're having. It's got a gothic, Brontean feel to it so far, like I should be reading it curled up with a heavy blanket, cocoa, and a fluffy cat.
Erin, I'm interested to hear what you (will) think of Almost Moon. I read it and have some strong opinions of it, but I'll save them for when you're finished :)
Insomniac- I loved Life of Pi! Wait until you get to the end(you'll probably figure it out before then), then read the book a second time. Audio version is creepy (phony Indian accent), and illustrated version is beautiful.
Erin- I didn't care for Almost Moon (Sebold). I liked her Lovely Bones, and was haunted by her Lucky, so maybe I was expecting too much.
Martha- Thirteenth Tale is one of my all time favorites. I have it in print and audio, and much prefer the audio. I especially like the way Setterfield wraps up the end of the book: A beginning, a middle, and an end, all in the correct order; all loose ends tidy. I'd like to hear your opinion of Almost Moon.
I've mostly been frantically reading schoolwork, but I've also read a bit of Resume With Monsters, which is something like what would happen if Dilbert met H.P.Lovecraft met Terry Pratchett. I'm really enjoying it, when I have time.
Hi all-
Ins, stick with Life of Pi. I really enjoyed it and we all know how I feel about most fiction.
Finished "Subtle Knife" and am now galloping through "Amber Spyglass". Thanks Danika, from now on I'll read whatever you say.
P.S. New cast is heavy and hurts my ankle so I'm grumpy a lot.
Martha and Mary Sue, thanks for the feedback on Sebold. I'll definitely let you know how it goes. The Lovely Bones reduces me to incoherent squees, so I'm hoping I'll like this one even a fraction as much.
Joy! Joy! I knew you'd like them if you just read them, Don!
Don-
How would anyone know if you were more grumpy than usual? Just asking.
That's precisely why I mentioned it.
Mary Sue and Don, I am sticking with Pi, and it has improved - now that he's a castaway - but I think I know what the ending will be and I have a suspicion it will irritate me. I'm hoping I'm wrong, we'll see.....
