Every time I'm in my local public library (which is usually a couple times a week), I have to check out the ongoing booksale on the lower level. It changes all the time, and I've gotten some real gems over the years. Recently I picked up a perfectly crisp hardcover copy of Ahab's Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund. Last week I got Where They Lived in London by Maurice Rickards, which will help me to find where Mozart, Dickens, and Twain trod and slept (if I ever get to London). I love library binding and pages that have turned soft and buttery after years of use. I couldn't resist library-bound copies of Bambi and John Christopher's The White Mountains, and my library's discarded set of Mary Poppins books are among my favorite possessions ever. Yesterday I bought this illustrated version of Misty, which was a Newbery Honor Book in 1948 and bears the barcode and stampings of my library. I like collecting and owning books as much as I like reading them.
