Movie Monday

A few nights ago, Jim and I watched The Apartment (1960) on Turner Classic Movies. We both liked it quite a bit. I actually didn't want the two main characters (Jack Lemmon's and Shirley MacLaine's) to end up together. I thought it would be more realistic if she ended up with her boss. She was kind of a doormat waiting around and pining for the boss, and Lemmon's character was a bit of a doormat waiting around and pining for her. Happy Movie Land brought them together, but real life would have said, "Hurt and pine, lovers! Hurt and pine!"

Write-up from Netflix:
C.C. Baxter (Jack Lemmon) has his future mapped out -- all he needs to do is cozy up to the top feeders in the corporate food chain. But his fast track to the executive suite gets short-circuited when he falls for one of the bosses' girlfriends. The Apartment features top-notch performances from Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine and was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning five, including Best Picture.

It's been years since I have seen that movie - is it a play? I thought it was sort of a sad movie, or that something melancholy happens in it? Chris has "Georgie Girl", which I am planning on watching.

Christine,
As I recall, you treated me like a bit of a doormat
when we first started going out. Sometimes life
is a lot like the movies, without the popcorn.

Don't intrude on Christine's version of reality, Jim.

He doesn't write on bookstep FOR WEEKS, and this is what he bothers to type? Sheesh.

Incidentally, Jim liked the ending just fine.

Hi Christine, glad you're back.

Nothing to say about movies but I really wanted to post this link on your blog.
It's a VERY cool charity website that will make you both smarter AND a better person-

www.freerice.com

P.S. Went to the bookstore today and dang it, missed both you and Danika. Saw Martha tho, THAT was something.

I think you'd better post your bookstore visit times so we can all greet you en masse. Then maybe you won't be so eager to come back.

Don! You must tell us next time! But I'll bet Martha showered you with enough love for all of us.

I'm going to freerice.com right now. . .
