School's In!

I'm all school-y this week. Plannin' school. Teachin' school. Buyin' stuff for school. Schooly, school, school.

Labor Day night, the night before we started, I was hopping around the house stacking folders and books and sharpening pencils. Jim looked at me and said, "This is like your favorite night of the year isn't it? You are such a nerd." It's great to be understood by those we love.

Do you have any favorite books set in schools (preferably big, stone, ivy-covered places, you know--English boarding schools and the like)? Also, care to list any favorite movies in school settings? Come on, I'll start:

Book: A Separate Peace
Movie: Dead Poet's Society

Your turn!

Movie: Mr. Holland's Opus

Christine,I meant to give you "Tess" at the orchard on Friday. Would you still like to borrow it?

Insomniac, I forgot all about that. Now that school is going and I'm reading three things of my own, I'd better wait on that one. Thanks, though!

Does Jane Eyre count? Even though that school was miserable?

It counts.

Keep 'em coming!

Ok, will you kick me off your blog permanently if I say

Movie: Mean Girls?

Book: Meh, I dunno. Oh wait, there was one but I can't remember the name of it! The main character's name was Pip, short for Philippa, and she had a young teacher named Percy whom she idolized, and she was good at drawing caricatures of people. I believe the book was set at an English (or European) boarding school for girls. Does this ring any bells for anyone? Does anyone know what book I'm talking about? I've suddenly made myself curious. Maybe I'd like to re-read this book someday.

Mean Girls counts. And I don't know the book you're thinking of. Anyone?

To Be and to Have - remember that one?

Zoe and I read "A Little Princess" years ago...

Thanks, Sophia--yes, a French movie about a one-room schoolhouse. Very sweet.

Thanks for playing, everyone!

Yeahhhhhhhh, I found it! It's actually by Madeleine L'Engle and it's called And Both Were Young.
