from Random House:
Kate, Michael, and Emma have been in one orphanage after another for the last ten years, passed along like lost baggage.
Yet these unwanted children are more remarkable than they could possibly imagine. Ripped from their parents as babies, they are being protected from a horrible evil of devastating power, an evil they know nothing about.
Until now.
Before long, Kate, Michael, and Emma are on a journey to dangerous and secret corners of the world...a journey of allies and enemies, of magic and mayhem. And—if an ancient prophesy is correct—what they do can change history, and it is up to them to set things right.
The Emerald Atlas brims with humor and action as it charts Kate, Michael, and Emma's extraordinary adventures through an unforgettable, enchanted world.

I am reading, "Inside the Secret Garden: A Treasury of Crafts, Recipes, and Activities" by Carolyn Strom Collins and Christina Wyss Eriksson. The Secret Garden is one of my all time favorite books and my girls also LOVE the movie. So we are completely enjoying this book allowing us to make things like they ate in the story and planted in their garden.
I will look into this book, cgb! We homeschool and are reading The Secret Garden to Maria (4th grade) and her 2 schoolmates in English class. Looks fun!
Christine, From the RH description, The Emerald Atlas reminds me a bit of the Series of Unfortunate Events books. But with magic & ancient prophesies, like Harry Potter! I really miss the advanced reads.
Advanced Reader's Copies are almost always new novels, which I rarely read. When I see an interesting new piece of nonfiction or a special kids' book, I get very excited!
I'm about half-way finished with the Emerald Atlas. Some parts are predictable, but I can't say I know how it will end. It's like a mix of The Sisters Grimm and A Wrinkle in Time. It's not dumbed down for kids, and the vocabulary is impressive. A good read for any fiction lover.
