I often have a few books with bookmarks in them at once. I enjoy classics more than contemporary works of fiction, often read historical fiction, and love to get glimpses into other people's lives by reading memoirs and biographies.
Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes/Under the Tuscan Sun starring Diane Lane--Mayes sold the rights and let them play very loosely with the idea. Movie is nothing like the book.
A Prayer for Owen Meany/Simon Birch--Book has one of the best written characters ever. Movie does not.
Possession by A.S. Byatt is one of my favorite books, but the movie was very disappointing. Aaron Eckert was smarmy, and Gwyneth Paltrow made a strong, bitter character into a vulnerable lip biter. Yuck.
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden is one of my favorite books. It stunned me the first time I read it. The movie - while visually pleasing didn't have the same impact.
Daniel says that the Eragon movie is nothing like the book. None of the characters are the way he knows them in the book. Much of the story line has been changed and he says certain events in the movie make it impossible for there to be a movie about the second book, Eldest. Both Emma and Daniel adore these books but Daniel has warned Emma not to watch the movie because it will spoil the book.
Apparently Christine will not blog again until I contribute, so here goes - Battlefield Earth. Yeah Ron's book was 400 pages too long, but the movie...Holy Geez!

I think all movies made from books are awful. You don't want to get me started. DRD
I keep raking my brain for a good example...DUNE was pretty bad - the first one released in the theatres, with Kyle whats-his-name.

Thank you, Don! We may now move forward.
