I know I'm the one who switched it to a Sunday last time and then didn't go, but what about Monday, August 18 for our book talk on Flowers for Algernon? And what about meeting at B&N again?
Jim and I continue to move through the John Adams miniseries. Somewhere in there, Adams went from respected leader to blowhard. I hope it ends with him being loved by his colleagues again. Did you know that John Adams and Thomas Jeffreson both died on July 4, 1826?
What is everyone reading this week?

Maybe it was some kind of bet they had ;-)? From what I gather, they didn't see eye-to-eye.
Anyway, about the book talk: at this point it looks like we would be able to make it that evening.
Hee hee, I heard that whichever one died second was relieved to hear that he had outlived his rival.
Did you know that Abraham Lincoln and Charles Darwin were both born on 9 February 1809?
I'm still working on the second half of Two Towers, while also beginning Return of the King, and trying to finish King Lear on the side. Lots of fun.
I *just* finished (finally) Neil Gaiman's Fragile Things. I had only the American Gods novella (the very last short story) to read, and I have mixed feelings about it. I didn't think it was nearly as good as American Gods or most of the other short stories in Fragile Things.
I'm gonna try to start up the Anne Rice Sleeping Beauty trilogy today. Wish me luck.

Just re read The Perks of being a Wallflower and Watchmen, both for probably the 5th time. I will start a new book today, not sure what though.
I'm reading Other Boleyn Girl at the moment and working on Breaking Dawn stuff. :-D
But in a few days it'll be breaking dawn till i finish hehe.
I have issues i know
Yay, Fragile Things! I agree, Lisa; the AG novella wasn't as good as the book itself. I guess in the novel Gaiman had more "room" to work with his premise. I do so love his short stories, though. Have you read Smoke and Mirrors? Also, good luck with the Beauty Trilogy.
I'm just now starting Flowers for Algernon. Other than that, all's quiet on the reading front.
Erin--
Haha, thanks for the good luck wish. I'm actually more than halfway through The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty (the first book) and although it's the second book that's called Beauty's Punishment, I think so far that the first book is punishment enough. I mean, I'm not a prude and there are certain passages that are, shall we say, effective, but I just don't get how sadism and the total surrender of human dignity are sexy.
I haven't read Gaiman's Smoke and Mirrors yet, but it has been on my rather long to-read list. Thanks for the reminder! Also, his new Graveyard Book will be out soon if it's not already.

New Gaiman book? Sa-weet.
As for the BT...well, one person's kink is another person's squick. I get that when writing erotica/romance, an author can tap in to what gets her or his respective engine cranked. There's a fine line between being hot and laying all of one's psycho-sexual issues bare.
Ok, I've just finished reading the first book in the Sleeping Beauty trilogy, and the prospect of reading two more books of this nature just doesn't appeal to me. I don't really care about any of the characters because they all kinda strike me as ridiculous, I don't care about all the ways they'll have sex with each other or hit each others' buttocks. I'm spent, and I'm actually wondering how on earth my friend who recommended the whole trilogy to me got through it. Not because of the brutal or risque nature of the acts in the book but because of the sheer repetition and boredom.
I think I'll just give up on this, finish reading Richistan, re-read Flowers for Algernon, and then tackle something else.
Reread Flowers? That's book club dedication. I'm about one fourth in. It's a different read for me than my first back in high school. But I'll say no more for now.
Hey folks, Lalittlecricket is Lisa, the friend who spent a few days as an extra on The Dark Knight set. Alas, her scene was not used in the final film. Maybe the next blockbuster, Lisa.
Hey, Don, I heard you're on vacation, but are you on vacation from your computer?
It was just one day on the set, but it was a long day, ;). Still hoping to see some action on the DVD, lol. Not holding my breath though!
I don't know if I ever posted the link to my effusive, really long, detailed, gushing LJ entry about my day on set back in late August of '07. Here's the link, but just to warn everyone, it may only be interesting to me:

I'm definitely gonna reread Flowers because I kinda raced through it the first time.
